Great Western Leasing & Sales (GWLS) is a dynamic trailer sales, leasing, and rental company in significant growth mode. The company currently has operations in Fontana, California; Albuquerque, New Mexico; Grant’s Pass, Oregon; Houston, Texas; and Salt Lake City, Utah. GWLS is seeking expansion into other sites in its current footprint, as well as into other cities across the country.
GWLS currently seeks a well-qualified Senior Director of Service, Repair, and Maintenance to help the company optimize its repair and maintenance operations and parts counters and to help grow these operations to the next level efficiently and profitably. The ideal person for this job will be someone who can address multiple priorities, manage budgets and P&Ls, establish a collaborative team approach to drive continuous improvement, and emphasize an execution business culture in the company’s service operations.
This person should have multi-shop experience, must have extensive experience with process improvement and process engineering, must have significant experience managing other managers, and must be comfortable rolling up their sleeves to attack the day-to-day.
This role is intended to be based in the company’s Houston, TX location. It will be responsible for service, repair, and maintenance company-wide, and will require regular travel to all of the company’s locations and to headquarters in Irvine, California. This role will report to the COO.
Essential Duties and Functions Include, but are Not Limited to:
This is a senior level role that manages all aspects of maintenance facility operations in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner by taking all actions appropriate to such a senior level role including, but not limited to: implementing and maintaining appropriate business processes; managing the company’s shop foremen and its staff technicians/mechanics (hiring, training, retaining, mentoring, development), as well as the employees running the company’s parts counters; and identifying and implementing new opportunities for single location or multi-location revenue streams.
In particular, this role will focus on increasing the company’s profitable revenue across the repair and maintenance shops by leading our the efforts to expand our customer base according to plan targets, reinforcing a culture that cultivates customer loyalty through successful relationships, and identifies, implements, and continually improves internal and industry best practices across our multiple shop locations that meet or exceed industry standards in efficiency, utilization, profitability, and quality.
This leader will be responsible for building and managing defined budgets and P&Ls, will review reviews financial results of all service shops on a consistent and regular basis to ensure that performance is, at a minimum, meeting strategic objectives. If objectives are not met, formulates plan and discusses methods of improvements.
This senior manager will be responsible for managing labor utilization using technology and reporting tools, will create a multi-shop culture in which overall shop activities are scheduled with long range forecasting, and coordinates manpower level and craft definition with current and planned maintenance activities.
In addition, this senior level role will work collaboratively with all levels of the organization, but specifically with the leader of Corporate Procurement and Parts Inventory Management to ensure shop inventory is stocked to proper levels, and will work together across the organization to resolve problems, improve processes, achieve goals, and maximize productivity. This will include responsibility for compliance with all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), DOT and other Federal rules, regulations and guidelines in conjunction with GWLS’s HR director, and it will include working closely with the company’s M&A team to evaluate and integrate new acquisitions.
A business degree (or equivalent) is preferred
Significant experience managing large scale truck / trailer repair and parts counter operation preferred—deep experience with operations at multiple locations would be advantageous.
