SE Independent Delivery Services is currently searching for a Safety Director in Lakeland, FL to bring a fresh approach to supporting the Safety program for our business. This will involve learning the business and determining how Safety can tailor the approach to the business. The incumbent will work hand in hand with the business to drive a safety culture through fresh ideas, best practices and the ability to positively influence all levels of safety.
Overall responsibilities include:
Provide safety expertise to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policy.
Assures compliance with all DOT safety regulations.
Provide day to day leadership: To ensure we maintain full DOT and OSHA compliance, through effective training and leadership. Training Managers and DOT Safety Managers.
Develop, implement, and manage safety programs and procedures that will reduce the frequency and severity of vehicle accidents.
Participates in the investigation of accidents and injuries and cooperates in the preparation of material and evidence for organization use in hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
Perform periodic safety and compliance audits for facilities within the company. Participate in additional audits conducted by 3rd parties. Recommends corrective or preventative measures and work with management to develop and implement improvements. • Devises, supervises, and coordinates training programs or media which will increase proficiency in safety practices and to promote safety consciousness. • Represents the organization in community or industry safety groups and programs. • Oversees the Compliance department. Maintains safety files and records, DOT files and reports, Training files. • Promotes a collective and positive safety attitude by providing leadership by example.
Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Sciences or a related field. • 10 years related experience strongly preferred, within an industrial setting. An equivalent combination of education and industry experience will be considered. • Possesses a thorough knowledge of DOT and OSHA rules and regulations. • Ability to quickly and effectively build relationships with co-workers. This includes the ability to positively influence your business. • Ability to think big-picture in order to develop the strategy and plans necessary to create a Safety Culture. • Ability to make critical decisions while balancing company procedures. • Ability to travel. • Ability to work “on call” 24/7 for emergencies. • Ability to act proactively or provide a solution with work-related problems. • Ability to work with a wide variety of people with different personalities and backgrounds. • Communicates with clarity, verbally in one on one or group situations, and over the telephone. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office, and other computer applications that will be required tools for the position.
