Trans-System Inc. (TSI) is seeking a Director of Safety to work in its corporate headquarters, located in Cheney, WA (Spokane). Direct leadership and management of Safety personnel.
Develop, maintain, promote and advance the corporate safety culture.
Advise senior management on matters related to safety, compliance and regulatory changes and trends.
Develop a strategic plan to advance TSI’s Safety mission and objectives.
Support and continually enhance all corporate safety objectives through daily management of the Safety personnel.
Generate safety management controls that direct the conduct of all employees consistent with regulations and best practices relating to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Regulations, and Occupational Safety & Health Administration Regulations.
Direct the safety, compliance, and on going driver training, and accident prevention activities and programs for the company including:
Creating programs and introducing new technologies to reduce accidents
Organize and lead regular presentations to update executive staff on safety and compliance.
Develop, implement, and audit for compliance of all FMCSA regulations and TSI Safety and Training standards. Maintain readiness for FMCSA compliance reviews.
Communicate with TSI operational and customer service personnel and give clear direction on disposition of drivers involved in accidents, violations, or other safety issues requiring corrective action.
Chair committees on accident review and safety standards.
Elevate safety awareness in the company, serving as a technical resource on compliance questions.
Issue written guidance and updates in the form of internal memoranda, Qualcomm messages, and articles for internal publications.
Administration of the Safety performance and award programs.
Travel as required.
Four-year college degree and 5+ years of safety management experience in the transportation industry, preferred.
Certification as a Certified Director of Safety, preferred.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in prioritizing matters and giving clear direction in unexpected situations.
Ability to perform well in stressful situations.
Strong verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to relate well with people from the boardroom to the truck cab and orientation classroom.
