Head Varsity Volleyball Coach Part-Time August - November 2021
Position: Head Varsity Volleyball Coach Reports to: Director of Athletics – Competitive Sports FLSA: Exempt – Part Time Date Updated: February 10, 2021 Start Date: August 2021
SUMMARY: The Head Varsity Volleyball Coach is a part-time seasonal position (August – November) that is primarily responsible for the Varsity Volleyball team. Additionally, this position will assist the Director of Athletics – Competitive Sports with the development of a consistent, high-level training philosophy for the entire Volleyball program. The Head Varsity Volleyball Coach primarily works in the 55,000 ft Athletics and Wellness Center located at 406 East 91st Street in addition to traveling for away games. He/she has primary responsibilities to build a strong team culture, develop the skills of players, and instill confidence and HEART values with our student-athletes.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrate a sincere interest in the social, emotional, academic, moral-ethical, and athletic development of student-athletes; understanding the highest priority is the health, safety and welfare of student-athletes
Exhibit a high level of competency in sport skill instruction, motivation, and conduct during practice sessions and games
Achieve competitive results that demonstrate athletic excellence
Develop a strong team culture and teach to the core values of the Athletic Department
Commit to use video and statistical analysis as a teaching tool
Assist in the development of a long-term program vision, plan, and curriculum for the entire Volleyball program
Display leadership and professional behavior and communication in dealings with student-athletes, parents, staff, and administrators.
Demonstrate excellent writing, speaking and listening skills
Develop a strong working relationship with assistant coach/es, mentoring when necessary
Complete and/or assist with all administrative duties including, but not limited to:
Tryout and roster management, game-day operations, scheduling, score reporting, transportation, management of staff and student-managers, CPR, VIRTUS and other trainings, distribution and collection of uniforms, attendance at League and CSH coaches’ meetings, communication with internal and external constituents, attendance and participation at school and athletic department special events, and other administrative duties as assigned
Exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with adherence to AAIS, NYSAIS, School, Division, and Department of Athletics rules and regulations
Support the mission of the school and the Division of Athletics and Wellness, while positively and effectively leading the student-athletes and managers
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience.
Previous high school/college coaching experience required. High school competition experience required; college competition experience preferred.
Vision and creativity to develop a program philosophy that delivers athletic excellence.
Record of integrity and the ability to inspire students and athletes to perform at a high level.
Strong motivational, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage relationships at the administrative, student-athlete, and parent level.
Ability to provide leadership and direction to student-athletes, and support student success on all levels.
Enthusiasm for the role of athletics in an independent school setting, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
A true passion for coaching.
A stipend is paid for the coaching position. Additionally, candidates must complete a criminal background check with fingerprint clearance and must possess or obtain, prior to the start of the season, current First Aid and CPR certification.
