Logistics Manager

SMC Global – a leading specialty chemical supplier with global sourcing and production facilities, is looking for a hands-on person for our newly created role of Logistics Manager. 

Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain, this position is responsible for creating an efficient and cost-effective Transportation and Warehousing Network, along with maintaining the daily functions of the SMC Logistics Department. This includes overseeing the procurement and management of transportation and warehouse services, shipment planning of inbound/outbound orders, and private fleet operations. The Logistics Manager is responsible for preparing monthly Logistics Metrics and providing logistics business market guidance to the organization. The Logistics Manager provides customer service support and supervises Staff in order to achieve the Company's and Logistics Department objectives.

Primary Job Functions:

1. Procures Logistics Services That Meets Customer Needs and Cost Objectives

• Offers cost and service options to the Business Units
• Develop Logistics (Transportation and Warehousing) outsourcing opportunities to drive best value for SMC Global
• Manages commercial relationships with Logistics Suppliers, including contract management
• Shares Logistics market knowledge and any constraints with Supply Chain and Commercial leaders
• Manages Logistics Suppliers against guiding principles and performance standards
• Ensures adequate logistics capacity
• Provides monthly or quarterly distribution cost reports to the businesses
• Maximizes cost effectiveness for SMC through cost saving projects

2. Manages Logistics Department and Network

• Plans and tenders customer/warehouse shipment orders with Logistics Suppliers
• Reviews and evaluates transportation and warehouse companies
• Ensures Carriers meet SMC on time delivery standards for both domestic and imports
• Directs the research and processing of carrier related claims
• Produce and share carrier scorecards that includes safety, on time delivery, billing accuracy, etc.
• Works closely with Business to assist in obtaining quotes for new customers and business
• Resolves customer issues as they relate to logistics

3. Manages Private Fleet Operations

• Drives safety and regulatory compliance for SMC’s private truck fleet
• Maximizes value of private fleet operations with external logistics trucking companies.

4. Meets Regulatory Compliance and Safety Requirements

• Works closely with the SMC’s Regulatory Team to ensure SMC’s logistics operations stay in compliance with laws and regulations for transportation matters
• Ensures SMC meets International Trade Requirements such as ISF (Import Security Filing) requirements with U.S. Customs and issuing report card

6. Supervises Staff

• Provides direction and feedback to a staff of 4. Ensures the daily functions of the Logistics team, including domestic and international logistics, are carried out.
• Provides ongoing performance feedback and conduct performance evaluations
• Documents processes and performs all duties outlined in relevant SOP’s
