Reporting to the Associate Director of Facilities Management, the Building Operations Manager oversees the daily operations of all campus buildings and work assignments of building operations staff.
During emergency situations and severe inclement weather this position is designated as essential and critical to the operations of the Harvard Radcliffe Institute (HRI).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Manages the daily operations of HRI campus buildings including supervising building operations staff: planning, assigning, and reviewing work, training, and conducting performance appraisals
Manages maintenance and operational work orders in Daily Maintenance System; prioritizes and assigns maintenance work order requests
Implements maintenance work practices that protect the environment and support the health, security, and acoustics for all building occupants
Oversees daily services provided by service contractors and operations vendors: custodial, security and elevator maintenance.
Acts as liaison for University provided services including but not limited to procurement, police, security, parking, and transportation.
Manages office reconfigurations and relocations.
Project manages assigned renovations and building improvement projects.
Provides support for Radcliffe events and programs by coordinating facilities operations: custodial, security, and building access needs.
Partners with the Building Systems Manager to maintain and update FINS system protocols and information; programming and maintaining the Siemens Citrix system, the Siemens BMS, automated light system programming (Lutron, Watt-stopper) and life safety PM program
Acts as a liaison between with HUIT and HRI departments for phone, fax, printer, and copier needs.
Actively participates in the Local Emergency Management Teams (LEMT's), and supports emergency planning, coordinates tabletop exercises, and communicates related plans.
Shares on-call responsibility with other members of the facilities department.
Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises the work assigned staff.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities according to the Institute's/University's management policies, procedures, and any applicable laws.

Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Five years of experience in building or property management; two to three years of which must be in a supervisory role. Demonstrated experience in maintenance management systems, digital control systems, building operations and life safety systems is required.
Demonstrated experience in project management.
Excellent customer service skills and ability to effectively interact with a diverse constituency (vendors, contractors, faculty, staff, students, and tenants) is critical.
Ability to learn new technology and adopt it in regular work is essential. Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and in the use of audio-visual equipment, and AutoCAD.
Certified Facilities Manager (CFM) designation or related designations (FMP, SFP, LEED, PMP) are desired.
Experience in a fast-paced, team environment, in a higher-education environment is preferred.
