Supervisor/Manager within the Transportation Management Sourcing team responsible for truckload sourcing for TM and brokerage customer opportunities. This position can be based in Beachwood, OH, Reading, PA, Dearborn MI, or Duluth, GA.
This position will be a key change agent to bridge the gap that currently exists between current and potential carriers within Penske TM and/or Brokerage to leverage our spend and negotiate with carriers to secure rates and capacity to drive incremental business within Penske Logistics. Along with establishing lines of communication and growth opportunities with carriers, this role will implement Penske's strategic Core Carrier Program initiative that utilizes KPI methodology to Reward and Recognize potential carrier partners. This position will support the annual Carrier Summit. There will be goals to increase overall network carrier capacity within the truckload area to a determined year over year targeted goal by actively recruiting and onboarding new carriers to support brokerage or by expanding relationships with existing carriers that will drive more capacity for Penske's TM and Brokerage customer base. This position will also provide opportunities to cross-sell other Penske services like rentals and full-service leasing.
Lead strategic category capacity discussions and negotiations with trucking company executives across Penske portfolio (TM and Brokerage). Secure reduced rates to drive profitability and secure more capacity within Penske's
Lead Category/Mode development initiatives to support Area Sourcing Managers to develop customer sourcing strategies within the Truckload category. Development of realistic goals based on current market conditions, customer's business requirements and objectives.
Carrier Relationship Management: Identify, develop, strengthen, and maintain executive level relationship with assigned carriers focused on Truckload capacity. Increased capacity within our network at lower rates and opportunities to drive partnership for carriers to purchase equipment from Penske Truck and Leasing
Provide category/mode specific advisory services. Provide market intelligence and industry insights in support of new business development efforts, sourcing engagements, and as value added services for internal and external customers. Provide thought leadership and maintain key industry relationships regarding transportation initiatives.
Present transportation market updates based on market intelligence, both internally and externally and function as a freight procurement consultant.
Other projects as assigned by the manager.
Bachelor's degree required, concentration in Business, Analytics, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or Statistics strongly preferred.
APICS certification preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated transportation/logistics management & procurement experience required.
Experience in supplier relationship at an executive level preferred
Previous supervisory experience and strong negotiation skills required
Understanding of carrier operations, rate structures, contracts and tariffs required
Working knowledge of JDA TMS software, or equivalent platforms preferred
Must have the ability to strategize procurement initiatives
Demonstrated ability to secure competitive capacity preferred
Negotiation skills, Self-confident and able to establish rapport at all levels of the organization including c-level required
Must have strong presentation skills and ability to present to customers in senior leadership positions
Must be able to collaborate with Brokerage & Freight Management teams and leadership
Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job
